Ingredients

Apple fries
  • 3 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Peeled and cut into thick wedge-shaped sticks; remove core.
  • 2 eggs Beaten until smooth.
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour For the first dredge.
  • 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs For the final crunchy coating.
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon sugar Use 2 tbsp sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon.
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg Add to the panko mixture.
  • cooking spray For spraying the basket and lightly misting the tops.
Dipping
  • caramel sauce Serve warm or at room temperature.
  • vanilla yogurt or whipped cream For dipping alongside the fries.

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Cut and set up coatings
  1. Cut the peeled apples into thick wedge-shaped sticks (like thick-cut fries) and remove the core.
  2. Set up three bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko mixed with cinnamon sugar and nutmeg.
Dredge and arrange
  1. Dredge each apple wedge in flour, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat in the panko cinnamon mixture, pressing gently to help it adhere.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, then spray the basket with cooking spray.
  3. Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer and spray the tops lightly with cooking spray.
Air fry and serve
  1. Air fry at 400°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy with visibly browned edges.
  2. Serve immediately with caramel sauce and vanilla yogurt (or whipped cream) for dipping.

Notes

For the crispiest texture, don’t overcrowd the basket—cook in a single layer so the coating can brown. Store leftovers in the fridge up to 2 days and re-crisp in the air fryer at 375°F for 2-3 minutes. Freezing is not recommended because the panko coating can soften. For a lighter option, use low-fat vanilla yogurt for dipping.
